Statement of Marcel Fiser, Startpoint 2011:

In the imaginative world of Daniela Hoferer we discover references to medieval, baroque and folk religions with their grotesqueries. Beside drawings, textile puppets and masks, she found an original technique in embroidery which she uses in a painterly manner to create hanging pictures. However, she avoids gender issues which connect this technique with woman’s work. For her, the aspect of slowing down and concentrating is more important, nowadays it is as archaic as the themes represented in her pictures. After all, it took her a whole year to create the picture for the thesis. In the imaginary space, reminiscent of temple vaulting with its concave incurvature and baroque frescos, various contemporary and historical motifs are combined, which she observed both in real life and found on the internet.
